Gold’s Gym Destin Florida – My Favorite Workout Place

Where’s my favorite place to go after finishing my day at Rulnick Realty? Gold’s Gym in Destin Florida! I’ve been going there since they opened, more than 15 years ago, and am what you call a “lifer”! What do I love the most about this gym, located at 12200 Emerald Coast Pkwy.? Everything! It’s only five minutes from my real estate office in Miramar Beach. So, I am out the door, down the street, and there. There is a huge variety of cardio equipment. I’m the type who likes to stay on a cardio machine for only about 10-20 minutes, then jump to another one, so you can do nine types of cardio machines and not get bored (three types of bikes, arm machine, back machine, two types of stair climbers, elliptical plus treadmills). They also have about 15 overhead fans, and keep the temperature comfortable, compared with some other gyms in the area. It’s normally set at 71. Most of the cardio machines have individual fans, so you can add that and feel the only sweat you are experiencing is from your workout, not the room! Overhead, there are flat screen televisions, and the cardio equipment also has individual t.v.s.

Need muscles? There is a huge weight room behind the cardio section. You can do everything from free weights to nautilus-type cable machines. The “aerobics” room is the place to go for stretching, doing calisthenics and core work, and has lots of balls, bands, steppers and more weights. That’s where they hold a variety of classes. I don’t participate in those because I would probably feel embarrassed at my lack of coordination, but they are very popular and I see hoards of people rushing out at noon on Saturday. There’s also a nursery, spinning room and a smaller abdominal workout section near the men’s locker room. What type of people go to Gold’s in Destin? Everyone from teenagers to those in their 80’s, in all types of “shapes” and “styles” wearing t-shirts, sweats, muscle shirts, baseball caps and pony tails. If you are thinking of joining, I would tell you not to be afraid. Everyone is there to get better and the mental happiness that comes from working out at all is worth it many times over.

Gold’s Gym, telephone 850-837-7071, is open early, at 4:00 a.m. Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. Saturday and 8:00 a.m. Sunday. They open until 11:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, Friday until 9:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday until 5:00 p.m. Most holidays they are open, too, with shorter hours. Whole Foods in Destin Florida!

Whole Foods Market®

Well, it seems like Destin Florida is finally really getting on the “map”! I was excited to read the news about a Whole Foods coming to Destin! The closest Whole Foods are in New Orleans, Birmingham and Tallahassee… and soon, in Destin Florida! The store will be located on Highway 98 off Destin Commons next to Rooms to Go and across from Lowes’ parking lot. It seems like a bit of a crowded location, but it’s convenient. I drive by there going to work every day and I’ll have to decide if I hit Publix or Whole Foods. It will be the second “high end” grocery store in Destin. Fresh Market is the the other one, located near Home Depot and Kelly Plantation. I love Fresh Market, but don’t go there regularly because it’s not directly on my way home. (At Fresh Market, you feel like you are attending a symphony. Everyone walks around in awe, speaking in hushed tones, staring at the food displays.) Not having had the pleasure of shopping at a Whole Foods before, I’ve checked out their website. I was immediately impressed by their “5-Step Animal Welfare Rating” system for beef, chicken and poultry, emphasis on organic foods and ranking in Fortune’s 100 Best Companies to Work For for for 17 years. They also accept Apple Pay (which will correspond to me having to get the new iPhone 6 plus and an Apple Watch)! How long do we have to wait before Whole Foods opens in Destin Florida? Sigh… 2016.
